There is one step left to Russian Internet addresses’ introduction
Fisrt site will function in a test mode at the end of March, all other registered names – at the end of the year. It won’t be possible to register domain with Putin or Medvedev last name, as many famous politicians’ last names are included into the “stop-list” at the request of the Presindent administration.
First site in .рф (rf) zone will have name тест.рф (test.rf) and will be a simple white page with the word “test” in the center of it. But its meaning can’t be overrated. Test.rf’s initiation means that the new Russian domain is registered in all DNS-servers in the world. Technically the procedure will take about two months.
Russia is in the first ranks in translation of the Net into native language. The matter is that in order to avoid confusion, the main requirement for the new domains is their dissimilarity to the word printed with English letters. Otherwise the users will hardly guess in what language shoud they print the address. And here many countries have faced the problems. For example, domain .ukr, offered by Ukrainians, isn’t confirmed just because it can be printed in Latin.
It also isn’t clear what to do with the “at” (@). Heretofore all addresses were printed in English layout, where @ is located together with figure 2. But very soon everyone will get the possibility to receive address like иван.иванов@почта.рф and then in the middle of the phrase it will be necessary to switch between languages and this is not too comfortable.
But there is the way out found. Most likely, @ will be simply included into Russian layout. But to send letters with Russian addresses from any place of the world, it will take about three years because this requires changing of the Network mail standards.
Experts think that Cyrillic names will duplicate the existent ones and this will lead to a muddle. In answer to these objections the followers of this innovation give psychologists’ conclusions: Russian “ёжик.рф” is remembered during 0,2-0,8 seconds, but remembering of complicated “iojik.ru” took 15 times more. Saving is evident.
Today .рф zone includes 6,8 occupied domains (.ru zone includes about 2,6 mln). In spite of that fact that virtually all names are free, only owners of Russian trade marks and state bodies can grant an application till 25th of March. Others will register their sites from the second part of the year. All names wil be available except of the most evident and names of famous politicians. But lawyers are sure that those names can’t be closed as the last name can’t be an exceptional right of a single person. And if a person will first grant an application for the domain name and will be refused from registration, he can uphold his rights in the court.
