For the first time Google Company represented its interpreter-phone in February 2010 at Global mobile congress in Barselona. Then Google Goggles recognized only German text and translated it into English. Now device can read English, Intalian, Spanish and French and translate into them and into many other languages.
The phone operates very easy – just point the camera to unfamiliar text, mark the necessary part on display and push “Photograph” button. If the device recognizes this text – you receive its translation. If there are difficulties with the translation, you can push “Translate” button and suggest the device from which language to translate and in what vocabulary to search for the necessary word.
Soon Google is planning to improve Goggles to let him recognize any word written in Latin. Besides, Hindi, Arabian and Chinese languages will be added to the phone’s vocabulary.
Google Goggles v1.1 operates with Android 1.6.

If you wish to translate your site into a foreign language you need to pay attention to the following criteria:

1. Who will be your potential visitors and what queries they will use to search what you wish to offer them. This is necessary to be determined before you begin the site’s translation to properly adapt the text subject to these potential queries.

2. Who will localize your site. The most correct decision is to find a translation agency that have experience in localization and translation of sites. Although this is more expensive solution, however there are several ways to reduce charges. Instead of translation by an informat, the site can be translated by Ukrainian professional translator and edited by the informat. In this case cost for translation can be reduced for 25-40%. You can also makeup and fill up your site with translated content by yourself. After your site’s foreign version is ready, the site has to be registered in search engines, catalogues and other resources.

3. At what domain your site’s foreign version will be located: the same or separate one. Here will be reasonable to register domain at com or net zone that will clearly tell the foreign users about what is on the site, which is located at this domain.

4. Who will promote your foreign site. This task is better be entrusted to the companies having experience in promotion of sites in the foreign Internet. In this case you will get necessary consultatios from this company to follow them when localizing the site. You can be required to give additional materials in a foreing language, which will be used for your site’s promotion.

Today the leading institutes’ professors consider that in the nearest 10 years the most popular languages will be English, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic. They are the languages that are worth studying today to make successfull future career.

English is classic, plain and logical language. But today there is a clear tendency of European languages demand reduction and specialists, studying Italian and German, literally melt away. Against the background of this the interest for Chinese languages is growing.

In several years the rapid distribution of Spanish language is predicted in Europe because of demographic crisis, as the growth of the Old World’s population is expected not only from Chinese, but from Latin American side too.

Among modern students there is a growth of interest to Arabic language. And this is not surprising as today it is spoken in more than 30 countries of the world.

What language is the simplets for studying?

It is considered that German and French have to be studied first. English is easier to study if you preliminarily know German and French. Dutch language will also plainly memorized after German and English. Scandinavian languages are better studied after German. Spanish, Italian, Portugal and Romanian are better studied after French or Latin. Poland and Slvakian are simpler learnt if you know Czech language. Yiddish is better learnt after German, Hebrew and Slavonic languages. Hebrew and Persian – after Arabic. Japanese and Pesrian – after Chinese.

Such habitual words like user and browser are used everywhere and by everyone. Because of the lack of proper harmonious translation they are used by real professionals at large conferences, substantial negotiations and on pages of specialized literature. Very often the site’s translation is crowded by such words.

At the time of USSR the scientific-technical terminology was strictly systematized by the state. Scientific-technical terminology committees of Scientific Acadamy of USSR and State standard of USSR were developing standards and controlling their strict execution. Today such specialized technical translation is realized by usual translation agencies, as well as authors of articles and participants of the dedicated forums. Of course, texts became more available for understanding but the problem is in obstruction of our native language with great amount of adoptions.

One more problem lies in that fact that sources themselves didn’t formed the clear terms’ system yet. Many terms in the leading software suppliers’ vocabularies are differently interpreted, that brings many troubles into translator’s work as well as the general terminology development.

Virtually any new vocabulary doesn’t include the full IT-terms set. Their authors simply copy the material from the previous vocabularies, but changes in IT happen so often that vocabularies just can’t be republished in time.

Translation is a service. When you ordering a service, you always have doubts about the quality of the end translation. Modern market of translations is very wide and you have many variants to choose. How to make correct choice and not to be disappointed?

The main disadvantage when choosing a company is the lack of interpreting activity license. The only thing that can prove a specialist’s status is his parchment in the sphere of linguistics and interpreting.

Always select prestigious translation bureaus, paying attention to their price policy. If a translation bureau gives poor advertising, doesn’t have a web-site and has office somewhere in cellarage, this must alert you. Although well-promoted firm with its office downtown doesn’t give the quality guarantee, as all its advertising it makes at the expense of the customers. You need to consider objective criteria. For example, it’s important how many years the translation bureau exists at the market, what recommendation does it have etc.

It’s better ordering technical translation of a thousand of pages in a translation bureau, because one person will make it during half a year. Translation bureau and its employees will make it in a week. If a text is small, you can order translation at private specialist: this will save your budget.

Selecting translation bureau, pay attention to customers’ recommendations and responses. Perhaps your friends addressed to some good translation bureau with technical translation in the past. If your friend can’t give you any recommendations, address directly to the translation bureau, ask them about their famous customers and watch their responses. You can select a private interpreter according to these criteria.

Translation bureau’s work is often connected with certain problems, and one of them is a non-translation theory. During the theory development, the researchers supposed that activity of translation bureau’s interpreter can’t be a part of linguistic work. But why? Translation includes work with text in different languages. Such position was explained by the fact that language studying is based on linguistics – the science studying language features, revealing language uniqueness and distinguishing it from others. Originality and national spirit of language became the basis of a theory that tells that it’s impossible to identify two texts, written in different languages. Translation bureau’s specialists considered that translation is a text’s image, its completely reproductible original. But it’s difficult to do this because of linguistic features.

For the opinion of linguists and other researchers, translation is a solution of a certain, often impossible task, because any interpreter sooner or later meets the problem to follow the original to the prejudice of his native language or sacrifice the original’s language for the native translation completeness. Translation bureaus are called to solve such situations.

The theory is based on the fact that the linguistics gives up for translation lost, because it can’t completely reflect the translation and original’s content. Uniqueness and originality of the text, its language perculiarities, its relation to a certain language collective, its cultural-historical features and so called background knowledge – all these can’t be fully reconstructed in other language. That’s why any translation will never be identical to the original.

Translation bureau’s specialists consider that such impossibility of translation is simply the demonstration of a principle of differences between original and translation content. This can be said about text, written in one language but with the help of different language units. But inspite of full resemblance lack, the translation made by translation bureau, perfectly implements its communicative tasks which the original was created for.

Translation bureau sets the main task: to make qualitative translation, the possible closest to the original text.

Release of new Nexus One smartphone from Google took place on 5-th of January 2010. This interesting device, that is working on Android operation system, can play role of 6000 languages’ interpreter. As affirmed, the phone can process speech blocks that helps better analyse the interlocutor’s speech.

As Google representatives say, such technology opens great possibilities. For example, if you have a call from a foreigner, you just switch on the translation function and listen to your native language. Google engineers have managed to combine human speech recognition system and translation technology.

For now the device recognizes any of 52 languages, familiar to Google-Translate online service, and synchronically interprets it into any of these languages. The only possible problem that scares the developers is recognition of dialects and accents.

However, in spite of all advantages and the developers’ assurances, during recent period Google received more than 500 claims connected with impossibility of this device’s work with 3G mobile networks. One more problem lies in the complexity of contacts’ synchronization as well as use of the telephone with Google accounts.

Google representatives affirm, that they developed new model of the phone sale and service and promised to solve all problems and provide technical support in several formats.
